An emotional story about a little girl who loses her father to cancer, doing everything in her power to keep him close even after he is gone. Death and grief are two difficult concepts to comprehend, especially for children. The author has done a wonderful job in creating a story that helps little ones cope with loss in a healthy manner.
My thoughts:
I read this book and it was hard to stop the tears! It is such a heartfelt story, and one I could easily relate to, as I too have lost my father. When my daughter will grow up, I know this will be exactly the book I will need, so I can explain to her people we love are never really gone, as long as we rely on our faith and keep that connection alive.
Death is one of the few certainties we have in life, but it is also one of the most traumatic experiences we go through. We often feel powerless, trying to give meaning to our loss. I appreciated the author for showing how the faith in God can bring peace and comfort, and I believe this book could be used by teachers and parents to start conversations on the difficult topics of death, loss, and grief.
You cannot read this book, even as an adult, without finding it to be deeply moving. It comes with such a powerful message: even though loss leads to sadness, we can still find a way to go on and feel hopeful again. This is a great book for children who have lost a parent, showing that love never ends, and that death is only a chapter of the beautiful story we call life.
Verdict:
A wonderfully-written book, which reflects on topics that are difficult for anyone, kids and adults alike. I loved how it focused on the everlasting connection between a father and his daughter, a bond that can never be broken. It is an emotional story, but one that just goes to prove how people may be gone but never forgotten. Filled with hope and love, it offers a beautiful lesson: we are all in God’s hands, and our faith can sustain us during hard moments.
