[Book Review] Don’t Wear Your Knickers on Your Head, [Author] Becci Murray

One of the most hilarious books I have ever come across, delivered by the brilliant Becci Murray. I had already read other books written by this author, including “Azalea Fern and the Last Ruin of the Extinct” and “Billy’s Brain Booster Juice”, and I was happy to come across another great one bearing her trademark style.

My thoughts:

Kids needs books like this! Her “very serious poems” are about “really important stuff”, offering young readers the opportunity to have simple, pure fun. I found this collection to be funny beyond words, a “rib-tickling read” that will delight children of various ages. Her rhymes are unique, eliciting laughter without any effort whatsoever.

Let me share some of the verses that made a S-E-R-I-O-U-S impression on me:

Her mother, looking most displeased,

Said, “Use a hanky when you sneeze,

“Or soon you’ll find that small achoo

“Will spread from here to Kathmandu.

All this friends, they heard the whistle…

Zoomed on out from rose and thistle.

Don’t take your knickers to the park

And push them on the swings.

Don’t paint them red and white and blue

When partying with kings.

The poems you will find in this collection are written flawlessly and the great illustrations only add to the delight of the reading experience. “The Sneeze” was my absolute favorite, with its impeccable rhyme and delightful idea – my daughter had a lot of fun trying to imagine a sneeze traveling all over the world.

Verdict:

We all need a good laugh and reading this book to our children will definitely help us have a great time! Becci Murray is imaginative and funny, and I think her book will delight little readers and adults alike. This humorous collection of rhyming poetry is a must have for any home library, and it can also be a great addition to the classroom collection!
