The magic of reading is created by all the wonderful authors who pour their heart and soul into their work. Becci Murray is one of my daughter’s favorite authors and every book she releases comes to be appreciated as a special gift. We were so happy to see another book from the Granny series, this time with grandpa in the spotlight. How cool is that?
My thoughts:
The holiday season is not far away, and we are already looking for themed reads. The new book from Becci fits this criterion to perfection and it’s so much fun to read! Written with humor and spot-on rhymes, the story will have you laughing your heart out, whether you are 5 or 55 for that matter. What happens? Well, it seems that grandpa’s cracker won’t go bang. Poor grandpa! As he has a loving family, everyone will become involved, trying to help. As always, things are bound to become complicated, with Christmas turning into a “booming” affair.
Kaboom! I think this is the perfect word to describe Becci’s new book. I also quite agree that the book is “rib-tickling” and perfect for making “giggletastic” memories with your grandparents. Grandpa is finally in the spotlight, getting heaps of attention from his family. The thing I love the most, in fact the thing that draws me the most to all the books in the Granny series, is the honest humor. Let’s face it, we have all had family meetings, and things rarely go as planned. For my daughter, the funny happenings are highly entertaining, and she is looking forward to something similar happening in our house at Christmas. Kids and their imagination!
Kudos to the author for writing another wonderful story, one which is both humorous and festive at the same time. Even though we may have become accustomed to Granny finding herself in a mess, seeing Grandpa in the same position is great. Grandpa is endearing and his struggles are only bound to make us laugh. When my daughter saw the entire family getting involved, she laughed and laughed. I think the chaos in the story speaks perfectly to kids and is bound to lead to lots of laughs.
I would also like to take a moment and point out that the illustrations are done by the author herself. They are excellent and so full of little details, for both the young and old. My daughter, who is five, loved looking for these – just like a detective seeking out clues – such as the photograph with the young grandpa, the bowl with sprouts, or the elf legs she spotted on another book cover. The illustrations bring the story to life, and I am impressed with the level of attention put into them.
Verdict:
What a fun and festive book to have for Christmas! We love all the books in the Granny series, and we were so excited to see a new one released. It was a nice twist to make Grandpa the main troublemaker, but I am glad the author decided for his family to “help” him. Perfect for the young and old, the story brings together clever rhymes, quality humor, and wonderful illustrations. If you are looking for a book that has kaboom written all over it, you’ve found it!
