[Book Review] Henrietta’s Thistleberry Boots, [Author] Laura Anderson Kirby

A wonderful picture book, which can be used to help children about resilience and coping with the powerful emotions brought on by major changes. With a cute character in the center, this story is an emotional read, one that would make a nice addition to any home library or classroom.

My thoughts:

My daughter is four-year old and I am always on the lookout for books that have a powerful lesson to offer. We loved reading this book, and for me as a parent, it was refreshing to see a character that showed so much determination.

In her lovely book, the author explores several different themes, including resilience, courage, and patience. Even though it might seem like a simple story, the message delivered is deep, with the author managing to inspire our little ones to face their fears and overcome life’s challenges.

With words that are easy to follow and charming illustrations, the author addresses some of the challenges our children have to face on a daily basis. Moreover, she shows that parents don’t hold all the answers, and I believe this is a significant lesson to be learned. My daughter understood the message of the book and she adored Henrietta.

Verdict:

As parents, we need books that teach our children how change can be a good thing, and how important it is to adapt to potential challenges. This is a wonderful story about resilience, a perfect choice for life during the pandemic. I applaud the author for managing to show children that change can be difficult but not impossible to overcome. The book might also teach parents a thing or two!
