[Book Review] Joining Hearts for Christmas, [Author] Rebecca Lange

Book synopsis:

Charlotte is a young woman, born into British nobility, who dreams of marrying in love. Her father, a man of a stern appearance, thinks otherwise and informs her she will have to marry someone who is twice her age. Fighting for her right to happiness, she receives a month to find a suitable suitor, both in love and rank.

My thoughts:

I found this novella to be the perfect read for a cold December night. The author has skillfully crafted the story of Charlotte, and her pursuit of love. The story will take you back to the regency period but, despite being set in the past, you will find many of the themes approached within the book to be just as valid today, as they were back then.

The book focuses on the romance between Charlotte and Hendrick, a man who encompasses everything she has dreamed of. It is full of tensed moments, where you cannot wait to turn the page and see what happens next, as well as surprise twists that will add to the delight of the reading experience.

Aside from the delightful romance in which this Christmas novella is wrapped up, I appreciated the strength with which the main character fights for what she wants. Charlotte does not bow in front of her father, and she always makes a point that a love-based marriage is the only option for her. She is determined and strong, putting her trust in God to help her accomplish her dreams.

Throughout the book, the reader will often encounter Charlotte dealing with important issues, including the right to choose her own path and having the happiness she deserves. Whether talking to her mother, grandparents or even her faithful servant, she will highlight that love should be the number one thing to bring people together.

It was also interesting to see the development of Hendrick as a character, and how confident he was in his ability to swoop Charlotte off her feet. The two characters seem to be made for each other, and I was glad to notice the authors adding some interesting obstacles to their coming together. They fight to be together but how it will all turn out? You will have to read the book to find out!

Verdict:

If you are looking for a beautiful Christmas read, you’ve found it. “Joining Hearts for Christmas” is a delightful novella, which reminds us of how important love is and how we should never give up in searching for the right person. It might be set in the past but the themes approached by the author are just as valid today, and I loved the determination with which Charlotte fights for her happiness. Great read overall!
