A book centered on an emotional story, which reflects on the true face of Indian society and associated stereotypes. I applaud the author for having had the courage to approach a sensitive topic such as sexual harassment.
My thoughts:
I found this to be an interesting story. The main character, Amara, is well-written – a girl who is happy and innocent in many ways, only to be awakened by the cruel reality. Her life turns into a nightmare, as she is sexually harassed. I am not going to give too many details away, but I liked the fact that the author took the story on a hopeful path. Amara will meet someone who will help her change her life, and recover from trauma.
Even though the story is written in a simple language, it comes with a powerful message. We should never allow workplace stereotypes to continue, and ensure women are rightfully protected. This emotional story, I believe, might trigger those who have dealt with such issues in real life. However, it is a worthwhile read – Amara’s journey will inspire other women to seek out love and support, as well as find the courage to say “stop”.
Verdict:
This is an emotional read, centered on how women are treated, and how hard it can be to recover from the trauma of sexual harassment. I liked that the author did not shy away from the truth and I believe this is a story many women can relate to. It just goes to show that many times the battle is fought alone, when healthy support would make all the difference in the world.
