[Book Review] Wrath of Kaal, [Author] Mohit Chawla

A dark thriller which brings forward the topic of animal abuse, with well-developed characters and an interesting plotline. In the words of the author, this is a “unique psychological thriller inspired by true events”.

My thoughts:

The plot of the story was captivating and I read the book, eager to discover who Kaal was. In writing this book, the author created interesting characters, such as Kabir Bhardwaj, an ordinary professor who is looking to protect animals from being killed, or Inspector Vikram Singh, who has to deal with one of the most difficult cases in his career.

I found this story to be filled with suspense, a real page-turned. It was interesting to see a book in which animal abuse was the main topic, but I believe some of the descriptions included as part of the story could represent triggers for animal lovers. The author has done a great job in describing the series of murders, providing a lot of details on the motivation of the serial killer.

I am not going to offer too many details about the story, because I don’t want to spoil it for you. However, I will say that the killer is after those who have performed experiments on animals. The police are looking for him, with the inspector having to deal with someone who is both cold and calculating. How does the professor fit into the story? You will have to read the book to find out.

In my opinion, the book would greatly benefit from another round of editing. Proofreading and editing a book before release ensures the best reading experience, and I hope the author will consider my advice.

Verdict:

An interesting story, with well-written characters and a storyline that was easy to follow. The story is not predictable, and I liked the careful introduction of suspense. Some of the descriptions in the book can represent triggers for animal lovers. Overall, a debut novel that is worth reading.
