This is the third book in the Yogi Superhero Series, which has quickly become my daughter’s favorite. Anna Smithers has written beautiful books, and this particular one seems to me like the perfect choice for the pandemic time, as it offers children the opportunity to learn about the benefits of yoga, mindfulness and relaxation.
My thoughts:
What a wonderful book! I read it to my daughter and I loved how the author walked children through relaxation techniques. As she has herself put it, “even superheroes need to rest”. I believe books like this can help children cope with the agitation that comes after playing or spending an entire day in kindergarten or school. Self-soothing can be hard sometimes, but not when you have a great book like this by your side.
For me, the combination of brilliant illustrations and simple relaxation techniques was a big plus. I am always looking for books that can teach my daughter valuable lessons, especially in terms of stress and anxiety. I know she needs my help to calm down and release the tension accumulated throughout the day. So, it was nice to see relaxation techniques that we could try on the spot. They helped her feel better and, at the same time, to become more aware of her body.
My little girl is a superhero, smart and assertive, but she is still too young to understand the effects of tiredness on her body. We read this book and I saw that she tried to apply the things she learned, which made me happy. Even I, as an adult, found these techniques to be beneficial. I believe this book could also be used by teachers to teach children about healthy habits that can be adopted without too much effort.
Verdict:
We loved this book! It was the perfect bedtime read, and it was so nice to see my daughter relaxed and ready for sleep. As a parent, I highly recommended all the books in the series, and I applaud the author for inviting kids to offer their ideas for new Yogi Superhero adventures. They can even send her letters and drawings, which is great!
