[Book Review] Billy’s Brain Booster Juice, [Author] Becci Murray

A wonderful chapter book from Becci Murray, an author I have grown to be a fan of, centered around the topic of bullying. With a dollop of humor and a mountain of imagination, the author introduces the reader to Billy, a boy whose life is about to change big.

My thoughts:

Meet Billy Radcliffe, a boy whose life is miserable, as school bullies cannot seem to give him a break. Not only are his classmates picking on him, but his teachers call him names and even his mother is too busy to notice what is happening. Can you imagine what his life must be like? The only thing that brings him joy is playing in the mud, with his friends, the worms.

In a wonderful twist of fate, Billy comes across a piece of paper, which holds a magical recipe. What kind of recipe you may ask? Well, imagine being able to boost your brain to the size of Venus, turning into a mastermind overnight. Now, this is where things get interesting. Will the brain-boosting juice help Billy defeat the school bullies? And how will life be once he has turned into a super genius? You will have to read the book to find out.

I found this to be a hilarious chapter book, one that reminded me of Roald Dahl, one of my favorite authors. A funny and imaginative story, which I believe will bring a lot of joy to children all over the world. Even as an adult, I found myself laughing out loud, waiting eagerly to find out what will happen next. Brilliantly-written, it contains plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged.

Verdict:

Becci Murray is a talented writer, and I love her writing style. Her books are creative and engaging, and they are always filled with lively characters. I found this particular book to deliver a brilliant take on bullying, and I can’t wait for my daughter to grow up, so we can read it together.
