[Book Review] Dogs Do Look Like You!, [Author] Victoria Smith

A cool book from one of our favorite authors! Victoria Smith, the author of “The Hypotheses of Hippopotamus and Rhinoceros”, has written a story that will certainly delight dog lovers, young and old alike. “Dogs Do Look Like You!” is a fun read, which reminded me of my dad and his German shepherd – they really did look alike!

My thoughts:

Dogs can look like their owners! What a brilliant idea! I absolutely loved the concept behind this book and also the fact that the author questioned who picked who. Young readers are invited to help Patch investigate the owners and dogs of Canine Lovers Lane, having the time of their life while solving this mystery.

If you are looking for laugh-out-loud picture books for your child, you’ve found it. This is the perfect story for kids who love dogs and, bonus, it has a dyslexia-friendly font. The choice of font might not seem obvious to many people, but for a child who struggles with dyslexia, it can make all the difference.

Children will definitely fall in love with the colorful characters and their dogs, but pay attention, the story has so much more to offer. They can learn about odd and even number recognition, and there is something hidden on every page for them to discover – I am not going to share what, you will have to find out for yourself.

So cool that the story is based on actual evidence! As the author points out, people choose pedigree dogs that look and act like them. “We choose a dog in our own image”, I loved this phrase and I think there is no better book out there to celebrate the love we bear for our furry friends. The combination of whimsical rhymes and striking illustrations is just perfect, and you cannot help laughing while looking at the owners and their dogs.

Verdict:

My daughter had a lot of fun reading this story! She learned about various dog breeds, and she enjoyed the fun facts and activities at the end of the book. Aside from being a hilarious story, it can help young readers develop their vocabulary and comparison skills. I am thankful for this story, as it helped remember my childhood pet, a German shepherd called Ralph and the beautiful memories of him and my dad. Great job!
