[Book Review] Edward and the Christmas Grumps, [Author] Chrissie Daines

A perfect book for this holiday season! Dive into a magical adventure, and see what happens when Christmas is about to be cancelled. The story is suitable for both children and adults, and the cleverly-design of chapters as doors to an Advent calendar adds to the delight of the whole reading experience.

I found this story to be scrumptious from beginning to end. The author recommended her readers to “snuggle down and read a door a day up to Christmas” but I couldn’t wait. I just wanted to know how it ended, and if Edward would find his love for Christmas again! Of course, you will have to read the book as well to see the wonderful turn of events leading to a very pleasant finale.

Now, a bit about the story itself, don’t worry, without spoilers. Edward is a little boy who has lost that bit of magic making you feel all gooey inside during the holiday season. But, with the help of his bigger sister, Jill, and a whole array of other delightful and relatable characters, he will embark on an amazing adventure. An enchanted Advent calendar, housing one-of-a-kind gifts, will be the turning point in their lives.

Can the two children save Christmas? Most importantly, can they triumph against General Grump and the nasty grumps? I invite you to read and see what happens for yourself. The story line is great and packed with action, and I found myself enjoying the book thoroughly, despite being an adult. It’s a wonderful read for the holidays, and it does send a powerful message. Even if you lose your Christmas spirit, there are always ways to get it back.

From Edward’s teddy bear to the ever-confusing Aphrodite, I found all the characters in the book to be lovely and so skillfully-created. The book comes with a free digital Advent calendar and a lot of other goodies on the author’s website, so you definitely have to check it out.

Verdict: The perfect read for this holiday season, a wonderful book about the magic of Christmas and how you can never really lose it. Delightful characters engage in all sorts of adventures, taking you to the magical kingdom of Santartica and back. Looking for a book to put under the tree for your young reader? You’ve found it!
