[Book Review] Hellucinate, [Author] Linda Olarin

A survival biography in which the author describes the difficult moments through which she has gone through, while experiencing vivid hallucinations. Even though it is a short read, it is practically impossible not to be impressed with her pain and suffering.

My thoughts:

As the author describes, the “unthinkable happened”, and she thought that no one would believe her. While dealing with these hallucinations, she felt alone, “in her private hell”, terrified that the nightmare would never end. Every word in her story is true, and written in detail, so as to show other people who have gone through a similar experience that they are not alone.

I felt that the author did a great job recounting her experiences, and I cannot begin to even imagine how it must have been to live such a life. It was an interesting read, I knew that people could experience hallucinations, but not such intense ones. I empathized with the author’s suffering, applauding her for having the courage to put her story on paper.

The experiences described in the book felt incredibly real. In her descriptions, the author left nothing out and I appreciated she had the strength to write about those difficult moments openly. One could see how much she struggled to understand what was happening, and how important it was not to burden her family with her troubles. In the end, though, she realized that a network of support, consisting of people who loved and cared for her, was exactly what she needed to get back to a healthy people.

Verdict:

Reading this story, I appreciated the author for not giving up. Only a strong woman could have gone through such experiences, refusing to let fear dominate her. I loved the poem at the end of the book, which perfectly illustrated how she felt. An interesting read overall!
