[Book Review] Jungle of the Soul, [Author] Roxana D.

A book that offers a valuable lesson on how to find your way out of the darkness. The author is an inspiring woman and I loved reading her story.

My thoughts:

After suffering a car accident, she was left paralyzed and her whole life changed. For many years, she fought against the thought of being disabled, dreaming she would walk again. Acceptance came gradually and only after she went through a dark period, almost surrendering to negative thoughts.

Strong and determined, she found a way to overcome those difficult moments and turn her life around. Her memoir is raw and honest, taking the reader on an eye-opening journey. From a poverty-stricken childhood to the tragic accident that defined the rest of her life, we are shown the vulnerable side of a woman whose destiny was permanently influenced by obstacles. Leaving nothing out, she presents the difficult journey toward recovery, and how she ended up an athlete, a model, and a fierce advocate for people with disabilities.

What did I like about the book?

- The honesty – it cannot have been easy to write about all the events in her life, but I think the courage to offer this raw account made her story even more worthwhile to read

- Her journey of healing and self-acceptance – I followed the story and practically felt the same emotions she was feeling; I rooted for her to overcome difficult moments and I was overjoyed to see her reach a point of healing

- The fact that it was a story which challenged stereotypes about people with disabilities – the author showed that her wheelchair does not define her and how she is capable to do all these amazing things, including taking part in competitions

- A lesson on gratitude – the author teaches us that we should be grateful for what we have and live to the fullest; she has found the courage to move forward, never forgetting to enjoy the small things, like a good cup of Italian coffee

- The notes from the people who have been part of her journey – it is easy to see that she has touched the lives of so many people, as the kind and friendly person she is.

Verdict:

This memoir is an emotional read, one which will teach you to appreciate life and all it has to offer. I applaud the author for pouring her soul onto the paper, reminding me what a gift it is to be alive!
