[Book Review] My New Zealand Dream: Growth and Destruction, [Author] Sheila Smith

An inspiring, emotional memoir about having the courage to overcome life’s challenges. The story of a woman who went through heartbreaking experiences, only to come out as more powerful in the end.

My thoughts:

The second part in the series captures the author’s life as a divorced single mother, with little or no support from others. An abusive relationship throws her in the depth of despair, but she somehow manages to escape. Throughout the book, you will get the sense that you are watching the story unfolding live before your eyes.

I found the book to be inspiring above all else. She has led a difficult life, yet she never bowed down in the face of desperation. This is one truly motivational story, and I encourage anyone to read and see what it means to never give up. No matter how difficult things may be, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The author clearly proves that through her story.

It is never easy to read about the complexity of human life, especially when it involves abuse and heartbreak. Nonetheless, these are just the kind of books to inspire and give hope. This memoir is well-written and touching, and it serves as the perfect example of perseverance. It is also an emotional read, particularly to those who went through similar experiences.

Verdict:

What an amazing book! I admired the author’s determination and strength, not to mention the courage of pursuing her life’s journey. The story holds a lot of pain, but it never fails to inspire. It was clear the author poured her heart into the story, and that it took a lot of grit to put these inspiring words on memoir. I loved the blend of emotion with the descriptive scenery details from New Zealand. Highly recommended!
