With Christmas drawing near, everyone is looking for festive reads! Well, if your kids love search and quest books, then you should look no further! Becci Murray has done it again, with her book – The Hunt for Ginger’s Gummy-Tots – offering everything a kid might want in a holiday read. Fun, adventure, the possibility to control where the story goes – it really has it all!
My thoughts:
Every time I read another book written by the talented Becci Murray, I feel like a kid again. This time, I had the privilege of reading one of her StoryQuest books! Wonderfully-written and focused on the Christmas holiday, it offers little bookworms the opportunity to decide on how the story will unfold, which is just shy of amazing!
It's Christmas Eve and the bakery is busy making all of the cookies for Santa Claus to deliver that night. However, one of the gingerbread cookies is missing his magical buttons! The author cleverly invites the reader to go on a quest and locate these, having the freedom to decide on the next part of the story. This makes reading so much fun, especially since each choice leads readers on a different journey.
If desired, they can also go back and make a different choice. They can even return to the beginning of the story and start over! Even as an adult, I was curious to see where my choice would take me, and equally curious to find out what would happen, had I gone with the other option.
This book overflows with magic and fun, and it is guaranteed to keep kids engaged. My recommendation would be to read the instructions carefully, as there is a very fun bonus feature to be discovered inside the book.
Verdict:
What a fun read! I was already familiar with the other books written by Becci Murray, and I was happy to come across this particular one. It would make a great gift for Christmas, and I am confident it will convince even the most reluctant reader to give books a try. Be sure to give the other books in the StoryQuest collection a try, as they are equally amazing!
