[Book Review] The Periwinkle Pandemic Pirates, [Author] Sean Bourke

A fun book about snail pirates, very relatable for the current times. The story may seem simple at first, but I liked how to author helped kids understand the importance of washing their hands, respecting social distance and wearing a mask, all to the purpose of staying safe during the pandemic.

My thoughts:

I am always on the lookout for fun books, which also offer my daughter an opportunity to learn valuable lessons. “The Periwinkle Pandemic Pirates” definitely falls in this category, and I loved how each page was filled with action. It made my little one laugh, especially since we got to use our pirate voices.

Who doesn’t love a book about pirates? We used this lovely book for bedtime reading, but I believe this would be a great addition for teachers as well. The idea of pirate snails who keep safe during the pandemic, by following their captain’s orders, is brilliant. My little bookworm turned one page after the other, to see what would happen next.

Verdict:

If your little one likes pirates, and you are on the lookout for books with educational value, this is the perfect choice. Illustrated by the author and written in rhyme, it is fun to read out loud. The theme is great and the story keeps kids engaged, appealing to their imagination. I especially loved the Beatles reference!
