A rhyming picture book, recommended for kids aged five to twelve. The illustrations, though simple, complete the story and make it fun to read.
What is the book about? Well, I’m not going to spill the beans and tell everything, but keep in mind the main character is a silly goose named Peeko. He loves to goof off, perturbing the other geese from their daily training. As the story unfolds, Peeko comes to the point where he needs to prove his flying skills. Success? Not really. The silly goose will learn all about humiliation, having to deal with the fact that the other geese are laughing at him.
How will Peeko handle the humiliation? You will have to read the book to find out. However, I’m going to let you in a little secret. The naughty goose will learn a lesson or two from his two new, unexpected friends, a bear and a pig. He will return to the geese to apologize, finding value in recognizing one’s mistakes. The book delivers a happy ending, as you will no doubt see for yourself.
I found the illustrations to be simple but I liked the fact that the author’s daughter contributed to the story, by coloring each and every illustration. Kids find it easier to relate to such illustrations, as opposed to complex ones.
The most important lesson that this book teaches kids is that it is never alright to make fun of others, as you might end up in the same position yourself. I believe the book is a nice choice for a bedtime story.
