The third book in the series was excellent, just like the first two. I read it to my daughter, and she was all giggles. Becci Murray is one of our favorite authors, and aside from the Grandma books, we are in love with the Unicorn Island series. In the third book, we got to meet Amy the Applecorn, who my daughter could not help but notice is green, my favorite color. She has her own special ability, which she will use to defeat the Horn Snatcher, the villain we have come to love by now.
My opinion:
Amy the Applecorn is joined in her adventures by two other delightful characters, Charlotte the Chillicorn and Chester the Chococorn. As always, each unicorn has a special ability, proving once again how imaginative and talented the author is. Imagine a unicorn who is able to magic the world’s tallest apple tree. Or one who uses her fiery chili-breath to fly a hot air balloon! Naturally, Chester is special as well, helping Amy carve a rowing boat from a giant chunk of chocolate. So many things are happening in the story, it was so fun to read it!
One of the things I loved about the story was the endless imagination of the author. She has created an entire world out of thin air, one in which unicorns enjoy chocolate milk, go to the beach, and have all sort of adventures. My daughter was delighted with this story, and I must admit that I felt exactly the same. The story has it all, including adventure, friendship, and excitement. I could see that my daughter loved it, as it featured unicorns (which are incidentally her favorite), but also because it had such a clever storyline. No spoilers for you, you will have to read the book to find out what happens.
The story is accompanied by some very cool illustrations, which are done by the author herself. She is truly creative, and I loved that she added interjections throughout the book, they really make the story come alive. Read the end, I can guarantee you will shed a tear or two, as it is quite emotional. As the mother of a six-year-old, I am always on the lookout for books that offer valuable lessons. I recommend this story to anyone with young kids, as it teaches them about the value of friendship, such a rare thing these days.
Verdict:
Loved, loved, loved it! The third book in the series was delightful and we loved reading about the latest happenings on Unicorn Island. Written with gusto and illustrated to perfection, it offers an excellent reading experience. It has many valuable lessons to teach kids, and I could see how my daughter was drawn to the story. She wanted to understand what happens and how everything would unfold, and she loved the ending. Be sure to check out the other books in the series, I am sure you will love them, just as we did!
