[Book Review] An Imperfectly Perfect Christmas, [Author] Denise Nicole

Book #3 - Series: The Secret Life of Debby-Sure

Debby-Sue and Fox are my favorite duo! I was so excited to discover the third installment in the series and I was certain it will be the perfect Christmas read. Fueled by the holiday spirit, Debby-Sue is going at all lengths to be there for her best friend, Paige, who is celebrating Christmas for the first time. However, their friendship will go through a bit of a rocky patch, with Debby-Sue working hard to create the best experience possible. Her main desire? That their friendship will last forever!

My opinion:

Reading the books in the series has brought me happiness, as I was able to return to my teen years and remember all the emotions of growing up. Debby-Sue is a relatable character and I just adore her friend, Fox! In this story, Debby-Sue might try to create the perfect Christmas experience, but things will not go as she has intended. Ruined plans, a friendship dangling in the air, a Christmas to-do list that seems endless… is there a way to bring things on the right track? As Debby-Sue fights to muster as much holiday cheer as possible, she will receive help from her friend. Will she experience the true joy of the season? You will have to read the book to find out!

Denise writes with so much warmth that it feels like you are a teen again, reading at nighttime, hidden under the cover. I think Debby-Sue is amazing and her friend just so! She is going through normal anguishes for a teenager, fearing she might close her best friend to a boy. At the same time, she makes a genuine effort to show her best friend the perfect Christmas. A perfectionist at heart, she will forget that it is for the best to slow down, rather than rush through to the holiday season. There are some important lessons hidden in the story and I think it offers the perfect opportunity to start a discussion with budding teenagers. We are all imperfect and it is normal to accept ourselves as we are.

The story flows so easily that you won’t realize how fast you’ve been reading, joining Debby-Sue in her adventures. While dealing with all these imperfect happenings, the teen will learn that no one must be perfect. She will learn that what matters the most is spending time with the people you love, living in the moment. Fox is a great contributor to these lessons, helping Debby-Sue understand that some friendships are meant to last forever.

Verdict:

What a fun and festive read! I love the new book in the Debby-Sue series and not just because it’s related to Christmas. Well-written and filled with important lessons to be learned, it touches the nostalgic chord that vibrates in my heart. I am thankful for books that help me travel in time and I find Debby-Sue to be the perfect teen heroine. Her friend, Fox, is equally amazing, always there for her, especially during the most difficult moments. As an imperfect perfectionist, I could relate so much to this story! It is the perfect Christmas read, teaching both the young and the old about the value of slowing down and living in the moment.
