[Book Review] Easy Guide to Escape Hell, [Author] Elisa Menz

A romcom with demons? Count me in! I was so excited to read the new book written by Elisa Menz, as her first book, “The Untold Forest” is one of my favorite fantasy books. This time, I had the opportunity to meet a whole new cast of characters, with Dagon Gunthersson, a powerful demon warrior, and Josephine Gardiner, a lawyer who dreams of a new life, front and center. A great read that brings together elements of romance, humor, and fantasy, delivering on the promise that revenge is a dish best served cold.

My opinion:

Without giving too much away, I am going to tell you a bit about the story. Dagon Gunthersson is not only a powerful demon warrior but also part of Hell’s nobility. As he stands accused of treason, he will escape to the human world, planning his revenge. Josephine Gardiner is given an opportunity to renovate an old house, and she will not hesitate to take it, hoping to escape her controlling parents and forge her own path. What will happen? And what you can expect with Dagon and Josephine? You will have to read the book to find out!

What a cool idea for a book! A romcom with demons that has been exceptionally written, drawing me in from the first page. As I noticed in her other book, Elisa has a great ability to create both unique characters and an amazing backdrop for the story. Who would have thought that I would have rooted for a demon? Not me, that is for certain! I found Dagon and Josephine to deliver an interesting dynamic, one that kept me turning one page after the other. Readers will love Josephine and how she does not hesitate to take control of her new house. Inside, there is more than you might expected, including a moody demon.

One of the parts I loved the most was the constant banter between Josephine and Dagon, it truly added gusto to the story. Josephine is sweet and shy, yet determined and perseverant. Her journey is all about finding her voice, with a noble cause in the background. Dagon, on the other hand, may be a demon warrior, but even he still needs time to adjust to the human world. Josephine compliments him and it was cool to see that she never hesitated to put him in his place. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me interesting, and I was so drawn by the backdrop details, such as the tiny demons eating pizza.

Verdict:

I am always drawn to stories that are unique and I am so happy for having read this amazing book. Elisa Menz is a creative talent, and her books have a distinct fingerprint, and I am amazed at how she manages to bring different genres into the same story. With demons and angels, good versus evil, romance and humor, she has created a reading experience that is truly fantastic. She has done a great job in creating characters that seem to grow with the story and the backdrop is so intricate, making you feel like you are right there, following the journey of both Dagon and Josephine. Highly recommended!
