Debby-Sue is back! I was so excited to read the new book in the series and I must say that it certainly did not disappoint. Written with graceful creativity and a touch of nostalgia for the teenage period, it represents the perfect choice for young readers. Debby-Sue is still accompanied by her best friend, a “wise and furry one”, as the author cleverly puts it.
My opinion:
Debby-Sue has seen her wish coming true, now she has friends, including her dear fox. But things rarely remain as one imagines, and Debby-Sue is struggling to face the challenges that come with being a teenager. She dreams of doing anything but studying, algebra in particular. I think we have all been there, so in a way the book reaches the hearts of both children and adults. The budding teenager is now forced to learn how to balance everything that is important, including friendships and schoolwork. What will happen? You will have to read the book to find out, but I am sure you will love how everything turns out.
While reading this book, I felt like I was re-visiting a part of my life, one which I look back at with fondness. At the same time, I tried to imagine my five-year-old as a teenager, feeling like any mother would, already nostalgic. Denise Nicole is a talented writer and I just love how she contoured the character of Debby-Sue. In a world where kids are encouraged to be superficial and focus on the material things, Debby-Sue shines as a role model. Hopefully, she will inspire readers to take responsibility for their actions and set their priorities straight.
One of the major things Debby-Sue struggles with is the approval of her parents. As teenagers, we are definitely seeking both approval and validation, and it’s easy to get lost along the way. Debby-Sue might stumble a bit, but in the end, she will learn valuable lessons, including how important it is to validate yourself, to find pride in your growth and newfound maturity. It was interesting to see Debby-Sue evolving from one book to the other, and I have a feeling that the next book in the series will be just as amazing. She learns from her mistakes, and this is one of the main reasons why her readers will be able to relate to her, returning to the story whenever they feel lost themselves.
Verdict:
What a wonderful book! Teenage Debby-Sue is just darling, and I loved how the author guided her in the right direction, sprinkling valuable lessons for readers to learn along the way. Denise Nicole has an incredible imagination, but she also delivers a healthy dose of reality, teaching budding teenagers that life does not always go as planned. The main takeaway? We need to learn from our mistakes, pick up the pieces, and move on, taking responsibility for our actions. This was a great story to read with my daughter and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
