[Book Review] Your Word, Lil Peter, Is Your Word, [Authors] Tasche Laine & Peter Valdez

With illustrations by Mei Mei Leonard

Let me just start by saving that I love the books in the Lil Peter series! They are just darling and always have wonderful lessons to offer. My daughter loves them as well and she is excited when a new book is released. The new addition to the series surprised us, especially since we were just having a conversation on why it is important to keep your word. What a wonderful coincidence!

My opinion:

One of the things I love about the books in this series is that they all relate to real-life situations. As the mother of a six-year-old, I am always on the lookout for books like this, because I want to teach my daughter about proper behavior. In this story, spring break has just arrived, and Lil Peter has an important job, working with his uncle at a construction site. At the same time, his friends are having fun and the whole thing feels anything but fair. Will half-truths save the day? You probably know the answer! And how will the story turn out? You will have to read the book to find out!

As parents, we are responsible when it comes to teaching our little ones about responsibility and how important it is to be honest. I absolutely love the idea behind this book, I think it is brilliant and so wonderfully executed. It is not easy to teach kids about integrity and honesty, especially since we are living in a world that does not consider such values important. I am choosing to swim against the current and use beautiful books like this one to teach my daughter lessons she will value for the rest of her life.

Lil Peter is a great role model, my daughter loves him and she never gets tired of his adventures. The new book in the series is amazing, teaching kids about the value of keeping their word and staying honest. I love that the author shows Lil Peter as a regular kid, one who is prone to temptation, with flaws and all. What matters is that he learns to assume responsibility for his actions – in the end, role models are never perfect, but they do teach us that it is possible to do better. The wonderful story is brought to life by beautiful illustrations, we loved them as well!

Summary:

This was a wonderful read, one which I enjoyed as much as my daughter! A brilliant addition to the series we already love, it offers valuable lessons for children to learn, along a beautiful story and colorful illustrations. The story is engaging, and it teaches children about the importance of keeping their word, as well as assuming responsibility for their actions. Lil Peter is an excellent role model, a relatable character, and we have grown to love him! Highly recommended!
